Driven by passion, this is our story...

Active Atom is more then just a company, it is a journey of two best friends, living and working in a precision machine shop together in a rural town in the Mojave Desert, California.  The company is an operational vintage machines and vintage tools museum in work.  We actually make the machined parts we produce on these machines as well as a more modern CNC mill and soon an American Made CNC lathe.

The company is devoted to sharing the way machined parts are made from start to finish by Patrick Lara and Lance Conway, sharing each detail of what goes into the designing, engineering, programming, machining, finishing and promoting of a precision machined product via social media outlets.  The Clip-Spring Pen is our first product to be offered and is one of thirty four product designs we have drawings for and wish to make in the coming years.

Here is the Company’s First Product to be Shared

Our first product is the Clip-Spring Pen.  Currently, Active Atom is raising awareness via a pre-launch effort for a coming soon Kickstarter campaign launch.  The Kickstarter campaign is for our first precision machined product that is made of a metal aerospace grade alloy.  This writing pen is made 100% by the two of us, right here in the town of Yucca Valley, California.

Have you heard the old adage, "You Are What You Eat?"

We wanted to take this statement and convey that your products are a creation and reflection of where you make them. The looks, the style, the efforts, just flow into the products you are making when they are produced in a place that is happy and naturally beautiful.  We hope our products share a reflection of the location they are made in.

What happens when you are left in the desert with only a camera and a Clip-Spring Pen?

This is a "Location" like no other ever shared through a website, it is the best way to describe our "Location".  It is explained through what it is like to be a visitor in a desolate desert outpost that grows on you so much, you go from being a visitor to a resident and business owner.  We are sharing a look into our lives and the inner workings of making precision machined American Made products in a rural high desert town.

We wanted to start with this "Location" explained document and over time, we are going to share more and more details about the journey of two best friends living and working together in a rural high desert town in California.

We know that websites have a digital map sharing their location on them but what we wanted to do for our location is the same approach we took with the products we produce.  We wanted to analyze this standard cookie cutter Contact and Location page templates that are added to most websites and, expand and personalize it in great detail likely the most in-depth Location description ever shared on a company website.

We put forth this extensive research project into our Location for great reasons, we love our home and our precision machining shop enough to share this journey that the two of us are on.  The company while important for providing to us a modest living, it is just a part of what makes Lance Conway and Patrick Lara who we are.

Allow us to bring you from anywhere on earth, taking you on a written journey with many pictures we personally went out and captured of our area and from around our town.  We write truthfully what the general area we live and work in is like and what is located nearest our location, then share the types of people that make up the area and town, our lifetime of relationships the two of us have to this area, the events that take place here and places to visit that might be of interest.  We even share the people that come into and through our town but that was not going to be enough for the two of us, so we took it into the skies and below ground through our interest in unexplained sky sightings and the underground geology.

Where we live is mostly made up of untouched and unrestricted access lands.  We take you on a journey of geological discovery, share some gained geological knowledge for you to apply while in our region to explore on your own and much more.

We took this idea from a coming from space approach.  Arriving on our continent, we begin sharing light details such as the coast we are nearest to, the state we are in, the region and general area.  Then as our journey zeros in, we begin adding still additional details and facts until we are very close to our location.  We then dive in sharing the finest of details about the general region of our town and the neighboring communities, how this town and area became a place, its founders and their bigger then life dreams and so on.  Finally you arrive at the home and machining business of Active Atom, and the founders Lance Conway and Patrick Lara.

We then begin spreading out across in all directions north, south, east, west from our home business, sharing the topography and landmarks, then diving even deeper yet into and under the earth crust of the vast areas surrounding the two of us and the company.  And then further  taking you into the elements and minerals that made this area a place.  We share in depth area mining, exploration, tectonics, volcanism, and weathering, places of geologic interest and some geological phenomena.

Active Atom in the News

Our first press release is unique.  The first press release is actually from a travel writer's first trip to see these two men on a journey living, working and making their first product to share with others.  The writer documents the beginning of a journey, following two best friends that live and work together in a small little known California town in the vast Mojave Desert.

The writer came on her first visit to see us and she learned a great detail and will periodically return to see us.  Maybe she will come a few times a year to document more as progress is made in the making of our products and growing our lives and business.
